ShowXpress Crashes!

Post by 80SRocker »

I was working on my lightshow the other night on my desktop computer, editing an existing lightshow to add another light, a ColorKey Droid FX. ShowXpress was working fine until I tried to duplicate the ColorKey fixture, and it seemed like every light in my fixture window was copied after the ColorKey, but was greyed out out looking, then the program suddenly just crashed! Every since then when I tried to run it, it tries to load and suddenly crashes. I looked in event viewer for windows 10, and it shows the ntdll.dll might be responsible or maybe thelightingcontroller.exe as well. I have tried doing the following things to resolve this, with no avail:

1. Ran Windows Update
2. Run SFC /Scannow, the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
3. Ran several full Norton Virus Scans
4. Uninstalled/Reinstalled ShowXpress software.
5. Deleted the Xpress 1024 usb driver and let it reinstall.
6. Have obtained another ntdll.dll file but can't get permission to replace the one I have (probably not wise but mentioned online)
7. Had Windows check for better drivers in device manager.

I am at my wits end and was hoping you might have some insight to what might be happening. The program crashed and caused some kind of error but I cant figure out how to resolve this. The computer seems to run fine and other programs I have tried seem to run ok. Could your newer version of ShowXpress be causing this? I am attaching what event viewed shows, if this helps any. I am sure you'll want more details but don't know what to add. My computer is older but works fine, Windows 10 Professional, 1st gen Intel I7 with gigabyte P55A-UD3P board, x64 based pc, 16 gig Ram, 1 TB SSD drive, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super

Please help! I really like the program and need to update the lightshow!

We received your lightshow by email.
It works ok here like it works too with your laptop as you mentioned.
The file "ntdll.dll' is not related to our software ; this is an important library linked to the Windows Kernel.
This explains that re-install our software will not change anything.

It looks like the problems comes from the operating system.

@80SRocker I can't remember which one, but a fix in this list at the bottom of the page sorted it for me (Win10), albeit it was causing Nero Video to crash rather than ShowXpress.

Hope it works for you.

@ gregkarr
Please confirm
Same problem with the file "ntdll.dll' ?
Are you running the version 9.3.17 (or higher) of our software ?

If yes, please post a link to download your lightshow (https://forum.thelightingcontroller.com ... .php?t=168). We will check it.

I figured out the problem. Which should work for the original poster. When a fixture is duplicated, it can create entriest in the fixtures.ini file which are beyond what lightingcontroller can handle (in the 30,000 range and -30,000 range). I was able to rename the fixture_backup.ini file to fixtures.ini and it opened. I then imported the fixture rather than duplicate it.
