Your suggestions for "sequencial cues"

Post by support »

We already had a few internal meetings regarding the "sequencial cues", and we did not find a "clean" solution. "clean" means a solution which matches with the concept of our software.

This post is exclusively for people who know well our software.

Please consider this:

1. Live V8 does not play only scenes, Live V7 does. Live V8 plays of course scenes made in tab "Steps" (scenes with steps), but it will straight play the Generator projects (and the Pixels projects), which means for these projects the "steps" are no more existing.

2. Due to its concept, a Generator/Pixels project has no end time (we had in V8 to replace the parameter "nb of loops" by the parameter "duration", in the "properties" of the button).

3. Live V8 is able to play the following buttons:
- scenes (with steps)
- Generator/Pixels projects (no steps and no end time)
- Macros of scenes and Generator/Pixels projects

A screenshot of a competitor software is not useful for us ; we need to be able to use the idea, without having to change the concept of the software.

Some important questions:
- do you want to cue Steps, or scenes, or scenes and Generator/Pixels projects, or Macros ? (of course the less you need to cue, the easiest it will be for us to do)
- do you want to cue in existing tab "Buttons", or in a new tab in Live ?

Your suggestions are welcome (the best is a screenshot) !

AWESOME :D

I already had some ideas about this some months ago and also created this:

Image

Here are the basics:
1. Cue - A cue can be a light scene (NOT just one step of the scene) or an generator project or pixel files or audio file or an video file
2. Next-Cue-Bar (Blue) - The bar shows the pre-loaded cue which will be played when GO is pressed
-> The coloumn "Goto..." sets the bar on the predefined next Cue to start
3. GO-Button - Can be triggered via space ; plays the cue which is preloaded (Blue Next-Cue-Bar)
4. Control Cue - Interacts with active cues (e.g. fading volume up/down) [The coloumn "Control Target" shows which controls what]

This might be the most important features. So here are some of my additional ideas:
- Timeline-Cue - starting a prepared Timeline
- Autostart [green little arrow]
  1. (simultaneously:) Starts the preloaded cue and also starts the following cue the same time OR:
  2. (afterwards:) when one Cue (Audio/light scene etc) is finished the next one starts automatically
- Pre-/Post time
  1. (Pre:) The time the Cue waits when GO is pressed until it starts
  2. (Post:) The time the blue bar waits until it jumps to the next Cue (both are helpful for autostart)
- Keyterms (small window up right) Some notes for the light technician when to hit GO
- Stop/Play/Resume/Pause - Does the action with a predefined Cue (anywhere else in the list)
- Organizing Cues into sub-folders
-Go function for live_mobile
- LOCK function: Prevents the user from accidentally changing anything

I really love the software but just like me there are many people who are missing this feature so it would be great if you can code it.

Thank you for this first suggestion.
Scenes, Generator projects, Pixels projects, audio files, video files and even TimeLine, with so many parameters !
This looks more than a new software than an extension of the existing one.

We were more expected for a very basic "sequencial cues" function, like we could find in a basic stage lighting controller.
If we right understood, in a basic stage lighting controller, it is more like each line is a step of a scene. And we can only go from one step to another one. Isn't it ?

Thank you support for looking at this request. You are correct that in most hardware controllers (especially in the lower price range) a simple button push step function is provided. I would find it very useful for the software to allow me to select a scene then trigger steps within that scene with a "go" button. Currently you have a selection for manual BPM and auto BPM to trigger scene steps. Could you add a third option in this selection for spacebar trigger? If spacebar trigger is selected each time the space bar is pressed the selected scene advances to the next step.

I will make a screenshot of the cue list of my lights mixer: simple but powerful in my opinion

in the next days ...

We are far of the suggestions we were expected for. We thought you were missing something simple, like for instance creating/saving list of scenes, load one list and move from the current scene to the next one with a "go" button.

Creating/saving list of scenes, load one list and move from the current scene to the next one with a "go" button
Yes, this is the essential part. Many users would like to have an external GUI for that, which has nothing to do with Live buttons anymore, although it will be hard to code.
As FraBob sad: A cuelist ist simple but powerful!

Maybe it would be helpful if we (as the users) set some priorities for the things we would like to have in this part of the program.
So, as you said, the essential point is that you can step through "cues" via the go button. Some people had the idea of just stepping through a scene. I do not think that it would be helpful for bigger shows because if you, for example, control scanner moves with it, it will be not very smooth or you have to hit go several times for a complete movement.
