Losing DMX Signal

Post by kenzo »

Hi,

I recently ordered the DMX Cable and it works good.
But sometimes it just looses the signal. The green flash stops and there is no signal to the fixtures.

I have to pull out the dmx cable before i can exit the ControlBoard (otherwise it just won't exit), insert the usb again and start the programm. Then it works but often only for a few minutes. (sometimes for hours).

I have installed ControlBoard version: 6.29
USB Driver: 1.04 and 1.05b1 (tried both seperately)

If nothing is connected to the DMX cable i get the same result.
I read i had to update the USB driver but found the 1.05b1 as newest driver.

Is something wrong with the cable or can i fix this?

I'm using Windows 7 64bit

thank you!

In order to know if the problem comes from the Cable, could you please try it on another computer, and let us know the result ?

Thanks for your reaction.

I have installed everything on another notebook (Windows 7 32bit (instead of 64bit)) and after a while (same time as on my other notebook) it looses it DMX signal also.

I don't know what the problem could be (could something be wrong with the cable or just software?)
Then i can return the cable and get a new one.

Thanks again for your help,

Received a new one but problem stays. After sometimes half an hour it loses dmx signal. If i click exit on the programm it won't shut down until i unplug the dmx dongle. After that i can restart the programm and the signal is back. Often only for a few minutes / half an hour)

I have tried it on multiple Windows 7 notebooks (32 and 64 bit)

My notebook is a HP Pavilion DV5... (don't know if this can help solving the problem)

Thanks!

Please check in the system "Device manager", that the driver version is 1.05.

i can't check that now because i don't have the usb dongle with me but i'm almost sure i installed the latest driver ( end of december)...
there were 2 drivers included (1.04 and 1.05?) i tried both of them...

I have just downloaded the Sweetlight Windows Fixes.. (can this help or is just an other problem solved with that fix?)

thank you!

The current windows fixes will not change anything regarding the drivers.

Reminder: we consider the problem can not come from the dmx line, because it is still existing even with nothing plugged to the dmx socket of the interface Cable.

In order to be sure the problem is exclusively with your computer, please try the Cable on another computer, and let us know the result.

but only if i have connected the DMX cable it loses connection, i can't get this problem wit no connection...

if the USB dongle loses the connection the program continues... the led stops flashing and the DMX light go on their own build-in program

only if i have connected the DMX cable it loses connection

So, the problem comes from the dmx line.
Most of the times, this is due to "ground loop" problem: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=374
