midi trigger

Post by The PPL »

How do you start a timeline with a midi note? I have the midi note enable in the DMX & MIDI patch and also the button trigger set
to midi - all channels - note 1. My computer recognizes the midi device and receives midi signal. Is there something on the timeline
that needs to be done or enabled? We want midi notes to trigger different timelines through the buttons, midi note 1 song 1, midi note 2 song 2 etc. What are we missing in the steps is there a midi note or trigger note that needs to be inserted on the timeline
page or does each button have its own midi note assigned. Thanks if anyone can help.

Insert the timeline in to a page in live.
Right click the button and select "trigger"
Check the box "Midi"

Is that the answer that you were looking for?

I have the button trigger set to midi - all channels - and the note set at 1. I've hit all keys on the piano keyboard to send midi signal via usb to showxpress but still the timeline is not starting. Is there a way to see if the light program is receiving midi notes? Does the midi note have to be a certain length of time? Showxpress is new to me, I almost figured out everything I need to do, this is the last step trigging timelines with midi. Thanks for your time.

Is there a way to see if the light program is receiving midi notes ?
ControlBoard > button "DMX MIDI patch" > tab "MIDI input" > the midi messages are displayed in the box at the right of "Incoming MIDI message"

Also, have you enabled midi input in to the show? You do this by going in to the program "DMX & MIDI Patch" and selecting the MIDI input tab, then check the box "Enable MIDI input". You can also select your device from here.

Control board > button "DMX MIDI patch Midi input is enabled and select midi device I only have 1 option which is Port 1. The incoming MIDI message is blank. Not sure what I'm missing to make this work. Thanks for your time and help.

Ok, if I want to may MIDI work in my show I open the "DMX & MIDI patch" program, enable Midi input and select the device I want to use (at the moment I have a choice of TASCAM US-1641, LooBe, 2- Delta 1010LT) It then works.

Are you sure you are receiving midi from your device? Perhaps try running MIDIOX to check?
