Chauvet XPress 512 with QLab 5

Post by beni.light »

Hey,

I have a Chauvet XPress 512 and want to use it with QLab 5. I know that a direct connection between the interface and QLab is impossible because the XPress 512 only works in combination with the ShowXPress Software. But at some posts in this forum i read about the possiblity to connect the ShowXPress Software with QLab via Artnet or Midi. I tried but did not quiete get how that works. Could someone please try to explain how the setup is done?

That would be a big help
thanks

Set up your light show in Showxpress. Then use Qlab to send MIDI codes to match those you have set up as triggers against buttons in Showxpress. In the Live tab. Under Editor there are three horizontal lines. Click that for button settings. You can do the same in Sequential list and it's the Sequential list settings. Ditto Timeline > Timeline settings.

hey, thanks for your answer. That helps a lot. I actually hoped for a way to program my lights in QLab but that seems not possible because of the fact that ShowXPress can not work with artnet inputs I could possibly send from QLab, rigth?
So the only way to do what I want to do is by programming the lights in ShowXPress and then trigger them via midi cues from QLab?

I believe that to be correct certainly with my version of the DMX dongle/controller.

I don't run my from Qlab but from a MIDI enabled board.

Support may have a solution with other controllers.

Hello,

Yes you have to program the lights with our software, and you can trigger the scene buttons in the section "Live" via midi messages.
