I can, but I am not using a hub. Both the DMX dongle and the Akai APC plug straight into the laptop. Which would I need to put into the hub; The dongle or the midi device please?

The drawn current from our DMX interfaces meets the USB power rules, and we suppose it is same with the midi device.
However our experience says some laptop PCs are not able to send the max current authorized by the USB rules.
So we suggest to plug our interface to the PC and the midi device to the USB powered hub.

OK. Will do. I will put the DMX into the laptop USB-A port, and the Akia into a USB-A powered hub > Startech > USB-C. Unless I can find a USB-C to A Powered hub.
