Should this work?

Post by MeCasa »

I want to control some large LED light arrays and I'm working on controlling them with both software and a Chauvet controller that I have. The type of LED's I used on my arrays required that I use current regulating drivers and the QuadPuck is set up for DMX so it should be perfect for that aspect of the job.

With a Chauvet Obey 40. The Chauvet has a 3-pin and the QuadPuck has an RJ45.

Can I just use an adapter cable? And should the Chauvet recognize the QuadPuck

Is there any significance to them saying DMX 'LOOP',are they using the term loop because signals go both ways or is there indeed a loop? Or is just a straight connection?

Thanks

We read the QuadPuck PDF.
So far, you just have to connect the dmx output of our interface to pins 1, 2, and 6 or 7 or 8 of the RJ45 socket.
Then you have to create a fixture with following channels: Red, Green, Blue, White.
If you want we create it for you, please make a post in this section: viewforum.php?f=25

To better understand. Using channels Red Green Blue & White will not necessitate that those channels ARE that color. In other words, the Obey can simply regulate dimming on 4 channels regardless of what colors I decide to use on those channels?

Question 2: I should be able to do the same using software with the proper USB adapters to the QuadPuck? And do you suggest a particular software perhaps since my needs are simple a good software to learn?

1. Yes.

2.. Yes.
Our software is effectively made to control more dmx channels. However, all software are like this, so we think that, if you want a dmx software (not an electronic dmx desk), our software is a good choice.

Two Quad Pucks, Channel1 and 2 red; channel 3 and 4 green; channel 5 and 6 blue, channel 7 and 8 white

Will this count as one fixture with the ability to adjust all without changing fixture?

PS: If you know a good tutorial please post it and I will start learning Obey 40

This is two fixtures.
You can control them together, or not.

I'm still buying parts but do you think I should invest in a DMX Editor for use when I finally start putting together these parts?

Will it make life easier?

That would be nice that somebody else than us (we are the software developpers) answers to this question.
