Feature request - autosave

Post by DJ 3pm »

I use lots of programs like Final Cut Pro and even Microsoft Word that have some sort of auto save feature built-in. How difficult would it be to add a feature that would make automatic backups of a file each time you add a new step? Don't overwrite the original file, just duplicate it, rename it, then save to every step or some time parameter.

example:
MyAwesomeScene.sce <-- original file

- open this scene up and start adding to it...

MyAwesomeScene.sce <-- original state of opened file
MyAwesomeScene(auto-save).sce <-- currently being modified file

- now when you save your scene as intended, you can delete the auto-save file to tidy up the file management clutter.

MyAwesomeScene.sce <-- new file

Power went out in a storm last night and I lost a scene I had been working on, then this morning my computer crashed while working on scenes again :(

This seems like a fairly simple implementation and a handy feature.

We are not very friendly with "auto save" feature.
We think we all must have the reflex to manually save, every 10mn for instance.
This attitude must be same with all existing software, because the major part of them do not have "auto save" feature as well.

The feature will be built-in to the newest version of the Mac OS: http://www.slashgear.com/osx-lion-featu ... -06157091/

Hopefully the light software is written with Xcode to take advantage of these new features the operating system has to offer. I know that's a pipe dream.
