Showxpress not detecting my DMX-AN2 - do i need to attach a fixture?

Hi everyone.
I am a very new user starting out on my Showxpress lighting journey, not professionally, but only for family events when needed - a big one in 8 weeks time.
I have read as much as i can in the forums, FAQ's.
Showxpress v9 i have just downloaded, the DMX-AN2 is brand new, but my PC (Windows 11 64 bit) does not list the DMX AN2 in device manager (so i can't check or update drivers) and showxpress is not communicating with the DMX-AN2 (the message comes up no DMX interface found). Everything is connected correctly, appropriate lights glowing. I have also set up the device settings in the internet browser 2.0.0.1 etc.
Question: Do i need to actually attach a fixture/light, in order for showxpress v9 to detect the DMX interface? Or is it something else.
I apologise administration if this is such a silly question.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm only stuck on this niggly issue.
I will be using the training videos and courses and will be fine once i can actually open showxpress to start patching fixtures etc.
