I have a xpress 512 plus dongle where you can do external midi triggering, but the input on the back of the box is a mini din input, so how do I connect a midi plug to a mini din input?

The mini din socket is for static contacts (see manual page 56).
The midi events are collected from an external midi interface which is connected to the pc.

We are using a show software called Qlab. It will be sending midi signals to our show express software that will be on a seperate computer. Understanding this correctly, we would need a midi interface between the computer with the Qlab show software and the computer with show express on it? If so what kind of midi interface are we talking about? Sorry this has been a real problem to solve and Chauvet is no help what so ever! Otherwise, installing the Show express software on the same computer would resolve the problem also, correct?

We are not professional midi people. We know there are several ways to send/receive midi messages. We think this:
- with both software in same computer, it should be possible to send/receive midi messages internally (without any external midi interface)
- with separate computers, you need two midi interfaces (one for sending and one for receiving)

We can only say: once you see the midi device name available in the dropdown list of midi devices (in ControlBoard -> Patch for midi inputs -> select midi device), our software will be able to get the midi messages.
