The Lighting Controller

I do mainly live theatre work, dance and ballet shows etc... and the idea of this advanced control would be mainly used during the rehearsal stages of the shows. Most of the changes would be the different settings for a mattinee or evening show where the colours are affected the most.
As we are talking about the adjustment of dmx values, I would like to see a fader which is in the central position "0%" and scales "+10 to +100%" above and "-10 to -100%" below. The software should allow for more than 1 fader to be configured for the users groupings, (ie - 1-Selected dimmers for White, 2-Selected dimmers or RGBAW for Colours, 3-Selected channels for All Fade and so on).
Ideally this should be an additional window that could be selected as "Load with Live" or as a separate item in Control Board.
The main idea is to be able to do a quick adjustment as soon as possible and not change any programmed scenes.

If a separate window is not possible, there is space on the main Live page, if the buttons on the right of the screen were reduced in size and moved around a bit.

I like the seperate window idea, but here is a good twist. Maybe we could add a button page like now, that would allow us to make it a Live Editor window. Either we could add the elements / controls we want or have it just give the basic qick tools.

I would deffinately loose a button page for those options! Then you are not getting burried under other windows.

Ok, things can now get quite cluttered. As timelines are my main buttons, and I use pauses to act as cues, I would also like to see the timeline in a separate window, but support has already rejected that idea.
I think there are many users that would like to configure their live screens totally different from our requirements, and if support are going to develop this "Advanced Live Control", maybe with a bit more time spent on it, it could be developed to allow user customisation.
Their product is getting better and better by each release, and this could launch it into one of the best.

Please give your mind (good and bad points) for these different possibilities:

1 - one optional master dimmer inside each page
overrides the activated "fade channels" of all "on" buttons from same page

2 - a separate page (or a separate tab) with some master dimmer
let's say 5 master dimmer to overrides all activated channels dimmer, RGB and par_can

3 - a separate page (or a separate tab) with one master dimmer per group of fixtures (made in Editor)
overrides the activated "fade channels" of the group of fixtures
if too many groups, may be limited to the 5 first groups for instance

"fade channels": dimmer, RGBAW, CMY, par_can
override: add/substract some % on "fade channels" for all steps

1 & 3 sound the best to me. I can visualize how 1 & 3 would work. 2 was just not as clear to me.

I do like the seperate tab idea, as well as a dimming by group of fixtures being setup in the editor. It would be nice to have that control with the master fader on each page (combining #1 & 3) not on the seperate tab or page.

Seperate page or tab could be an option as well though. I just picture the seperate tab or page being for more control, like a quick version of Editor. Just grab some fixtures, set the color, set the intensity, and you are ready!

My feeling is that if it is going to be an "Advanced Live Control" then the programmer should be able to create a master dimmer and assign which channels he/she would like to use.
Something on the same lines as dmx patching would suit me.
A restriction of 5 faders would be ok.

"2" was just not as clear to me.

This is a separate page (or tab), with for instance 5 master dimmers.
- dimmer#1 - overrides all activated channels called "dimmer"
- dimmer#2 - overrides all activated channels called "red"
- dimmer#3 - overrides all activated channels called "green"
- dimmer#4 - overrides all activated channels called "blue"
- dimmer#5 - overrides all activated channels called "par_can"
- some more dimmers are possible if really necessary (the main limit is the room on screen)
Please let us know if "2" is now clear for you.

We have to make it easy to use.

This is not the target. We are presently talking about adding/substracting % to current dmx values in real time. No way to set color/gobo with such "master dimmer".

But we are not really looking for an "advanced control".
We would like to add some "master dimmers" with the ability to "override" some channels, in order to offer more confort for all users during a live show.
We have understood that these master dimmers must override exclusively the "fade channels" ; we have the code for this now.

The next question is, would you prefer to have:
"one master dimmer per 'Editor' group of fixtures, which overrides all fade channels of the selected group"
Example:
- dimmer#1 - overrides "dimmer, R, G, B, C, M, Y, ..." of led parcans
- dimmer#2 - overrides "dimmer, R, G, B, C, M, Y, ..." of moving heads of the roof
- dimmer#3 - overrides "dimmer, R, G, B, C, M, Y, ..." of moving heads of the back stage
- dimmer#4 - overrides "dimmer, R, G, B, C, M, Y, ..." of mirror lights
- dimmer#5 - overrides "dimmer, R, G, B, C, M, Y, ..." of strobe lights
...
or

The 2nd option of your new suggestions is the better one for me.

It needs to be fully selectable by the user which channels are affected. I often have dimmers, and effects on the same page, the effects cannot be modified by the master dimmer, but par cans need to be.
There is a ton of empty screen on the right side of the first buttons page in Live, under the manual BPM tool above the dmx & 3d view buttons.
I like the idea of it being similar to the soft patching.

I agree with your statement that it needs to be user controlled to allow it to be of good use to any good light programmer.
My answer to support that option 2 is the better, as I think I can manipulate my fixture settings to make it work.
