Using version 6.33, I'm unable to create additional steps for a scene that use channels that aren't initially enabled on the first/previous scene. If I create steps in this manner, they simply don't broadcast on the corresponding DMX channels when the step begins. I'm attempting to do this to create a chase scene that doesn't start by blacking out the previous scene.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? Please advise, thanks!
[V6.33] Bug involving layered steps [fixed]
Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
We are not able to reproduce this problem.
Please post your lightshow and specify how to proceed, in order to see the problem.

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
Attached is a zip of my show export. It's odd, as when I re-created the exact same scene, it worked while I was creating the scene, but after saving/closing the scene editor, the scene no longer outputs the new DMX values of the second/third step, whether I attach the scene as a button in live and try and play it there, or even if I re-open the scene in Editor and try to play it. It doesn't like sending DMX values on channels that aren't initially enabled in the first step... I think it works when I create it because, as I'm adding new channels for the second/third step, I'm enabling those channels manually, which allows the entire scene to play.
I noted similar behavior in Live; If I add the button for the scene (titled "Effect_Red"), and define it as a preset button, I can enable it and toggle through presets, but it will only output the levels of the preset the button is on when it's toggled on. If I then toggle the button off/on for each different preset, I can -then- leave the button toggled on and click through the presets, having each preset output the correct DMX values.
Hopefully I was clear enough in my explanation of the problem... if you need anything further clarified, please let me know. Tested this on two different PCs, one with my lights physically attached, and both with the scene made from scratch.
Thanks!

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
I don't know... I've got a fairly decent understanding of not activating unused channels in order to allow new effects to layer over old. If you're suggesting that I disable channels in later steps if they're not changing the values in previous steps, I've tried that as well, and it didn't work (as I expected, since the previous step isn't still active).
I'm also testing this scene in Live without any other effects enabled, and with all channels disabled/DMX off in editor. I'm not sure what else could be interfering with the signal at this point; I just know that, in -any- scene I make, if a channel isn't enabled on the step that starts the scene, then later steps within that scene won't register -any- communications on said channel, even if later steps have said channel as active and have a value assigned.

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
Through further testing/troubleshooting, I've reinstalled 6.32 and loaded this scene up; It works correctly/as intended, without the output problems listed above.
This solves my problem for the time being, but looking forward to using that master fader! Let me know if there's any other info I could provide that would help.
Thanks for the great product/support!

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
The best for us would be the easiest possible lightshow:
- the min possible scenes
- the min possible steps
- the min possible channels
Then we will observe with 6.33 and 6.32, and we will try to see the difference.

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
Are you using a multiple universe configuration ?
Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
No, single universe (or no universe, if I'm away from home w/o my DMX interface, like now)
Attached is a test show I've created; It has one fixture (six spot... one channel for each spot, plus some effects channels), and 3 steps. My intention is to have the first step turn on the first two spots, the second step keep on the first two spots and turn on the last two spots, and the last step has all spots on. I want the channels for each respective spot to be disabled until the step that turns said spot on, that way when I layer it over a different scene utilizing the 6spot, it doesn't start this scene by blacking out the fixture first.
The current results for this scene, both in Editor and Live, are that the first step plays/sends DMX signal, but the second/third step only sends signal on the channels that are enabled on the first step. I've also noted that, if a previous scene is currently on that has all the channels for this fixture enabled, then this scene will play as intended, and all steps will function. That is why I believe the problem lies with later steps in a scene having channels that don't work unless the initial step has the channels enabled. Also, as mentioned this problem doesn't seem to occur in 6.32.
Take a look at my test show, and let me know if this helps you replicate the problem or if there's anything else I can provide. Thanks!!

Re: Bug Report(?) Involving layered steps
This second lightshow is more clear for us.
In your scene, channels 3 to 6 are not active in first step ; this is the reason of the problem.
But, we are supposed to not be able to make such scene ; channels 3 to 6 should be always active.
Can you please tell us how you proceed to make such scene ?
