Power surge, D512 not working

Post by avshack »

Hi, A haze machine went pop today and caused a the laptops to need rebooting. After one of the 2 D512 boxes no longer lights up and no signal going to the lighting. Is it possible a surge caused it to go down? As it's powered from the laptop I'm not sure but looking in devices it doesn't show up only the other D512. Is it possible it's just the driver somehow damaged and if so would installing the driver again get it working? Or is it the case that as the other D512 is working it's not the driver at fault?

It looks like one of the D512 has been damaged by the electrical problem in the DMX line. Certainly the one connected to the haze machine (?)
We do not think this could be a USB driver problem.
To be sure, just swap the 2 DMX interfaces and observe the result. But before doing that, be sure the haze machine is not connected anymore, otherwise you may damage the second DMX interface as well.
We have spare PCBs for this DMX interface ; please contact your retailer to ask for one.

FYI, you will see here the DMX line protection details of our current DMX interfaces: https://forum.thelightingcontroller.com ... ic.php?t=5

Thanks for that, I did swap the two interfaces over but it still did not respond. The haze machine was not connected to the DMX when it blew. Do you think just the laptop shutting down as it did could have caused the interface to be damaged? I was thinking about it after my post and wondered how a power surge could have got to the interface? It would have had to go through the laptop charger then the laptop then out the USB. Do you think this would be possible? Is there any other way of testing the interface to see if it powers on without the laptop.
Also as i bought these in 2015 I do not remember where I bought them from. Could you please tell me who to contact the get a replacement PCB? I'm in the UK. I'm perfectly capable of changing it over. Thanks ever so much for your help.

We never saw a damage via the computer.
We think the damage can arrive only via the DMX line.

Please PM your name and address and we will see how to proceed.
