create scenes with steps

request - better steps sync with Beat [done]

Postby djdad » 17 February 2020, 16:31

Hi,

I want to create a simple scene where the RGB Pars (just 3 Channels - RGB) will "flash" for a few milliseconds and then turn off until the next Beat comes up.
Since the steps of the scene will be triggered by Beat (coming from VirtualDJ OS2L), i assume i cannot use any Generator and need to go with simple steps, right ?
Now, my thought is to have 4 steps
Step 1 : Light my RGBs with a color
Steps 2 to 4 : Turned off
and then in Live, to define Speed Properties with "Beat" set to 1/4

would that work ? Any better ideas ?

It works as expected, but not good enough.
Reason is because the 4 steps are not following the Beats 1-2-3-4 of the VirtualDJ Beat Counter.
So if you trigger the scene and the track is not on Beat Nr.1, you get the flash effect "shifted" and not "on-beat", if you understand what i mean.

I suppose for such cases where you want to match the Beats of a Phrase with the Steps of a scene, scenes should force their Steps to 4, 8 , 16 etc.

Alternatively there could be a Strobe FX for RGB fixtures that could be triggered with BPM and just define how much you want to flash (in %) before the next Beat comes in.

Fair enough to stand as a feature request ?

We just released a new fix file (V9.1.14) with a new option "Run from step #1" in the "Speed properties" window.
Together with the option "Pause at end", it will do the required effect quite efficiently.
Please try it and let us know.

PS: you have also to copy the "language" files in your software folder, in order to see the correct text in the "Speed properties" window.

Maybe i am doing something wrong, but doesnt work for me here.

As i said in my initial post, i have a 4 steps scene with 100% Blue on on 1st step and black in all other 3.
My Sweetlight now says 9.2.14 and also updated 3DView and lang files.
When i trigger the scene while the VDJ Beat is running, the 1st step of the scene is shown, but not the other 3, so lights remain blue all the time.

Button is set as Pause at End. Here is how the Speed properties look ..

BTW, i ll have a real test at the venue next week, so for now its just the 3DView that stands as evidence.

Please keep in mind that, in this new mode, the scene is played at manuel speed from step #1 to last step.
So please check the duration of the steps. It has to be quite short.

PS : the language files are not in the right location. They have to be in ".../YourSoftware/TheLightingController/language/".

We suggest this setting for the required effect:
- 2 steps only in the scene
- step #1 "on" with short duration (0,2 sec for instance)
- step #2 "off" with duration 1 sec for instance (not really important because of "pause at end" option)
- speed set to 1/1 (1/4 means play 4 times the scene between 2 Beats)
And 4/1 means play the scene one time after 4 Beats.

Hello,

I am now reading this topic and I am really liking these features. I have the newest version of ShowXpress installed (9.2.10), but I am not seeing the start from 1st beat property in the speed properties. I can't find any fix files I might have to install on the ShowXpress site also. Would anyone be able to help me get these features in my version?
