Video Import problem

Postby tmeissner » 08 March 2019, 05:29

I am attempting to add a 28 minute .MKV video file into the timeline. The video file plays fine using VLC on my Windows O/S laptop. When I "Add media File" to a timeline, the file is added but it is only 3 seconds of video. I've also try other file formats like .MP4 and .MOV - all of these only import a few seconds.

Any ideas?

Thanks - TM

Thanks for the response. It was the same result in v8.

I added a 30 minute light scene to the timeline. That worked. I know the .MKV Video file works on this PC. It runs with sound using VLC and is truly 28 Minutes long. I've also tried a 15 minute >MP4 video from a GoPro Camera as a test. No luck - it still adds the media file as a 6 second video.

Any other thoughts? Is there a better format that I should use?

MKV or MP4 is just a "container", there are many possible codecs inside. Check them with "mediainfo" for example:
https://mediaarea.net/fr/MediaInfo
In case you think the codec is missing, check also this:
https://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
By the way, VLC is known to read almost everything, it's really an amazing piece of software.

The codecs did the trick. Thanks for the help.

FYI : VLC use his own embedded codecs and do not make use of system installed codecs

Yes, that's why the fact that VLC could read the video was not a proof of something wrong with Sweetlight, just a missing codec indeed... 8-)
