[V8.1] Windows Defender reports a virus [fixed]

Post by scottenj »

I have both a Windows 10 machine and a Mac. I tried to install 8.1 on the windows machine and I got a Trojan horse virus warning (7.1.80 installed fine) and my antivirus software prevented the install. On my Mac machine it installed OK. Is this a compatibility problem with the antivirus software or is the program corrupt?

Also on my Mac I now have a .sce and a .scex version of every one of my scenes. Should I delete the .sce scenes?

It is a "false positive".
Please read this for more info: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2019

BTW, can you please tell us your antivirus, and post a screenshot if possible ?

You can keep the .sce scenes, but they will not be used anymore in V8-Editor-Steps.

I just had the same issue with Windows 10 and Windows Defender which claims to have found a trojan.

I have to admit it did make me think "what if someone's compromised their servers?". This is where App Stores and digital signatures offer some level of comfort.

If possible please, send the "false positive" report to Microsoft.
(we already did it, and the answer from Microsoft is "the file is clean" !)

Please note that it should be possible to ignore this false positive, like this:
- select "Settings > Update & security > Windows Defender"
- scroll down to "Exclusions"
- tap "Add an exclusion"
Here, you’ll be able to add the file which triggers the "false positive".

I shut off defender, did the install and then turned it back on and that worked fine.
