Practice? It's a darn nightmare whether on joystick or mouse for precision live follow-spot action.
Though I do use movers in follow-spot type behaviors, its from preset focus settings to block marks for my performers.
Then when I need it, I cue the point and then the shutter and if they are standing on the points they posed for me in sound check then they are in a blaze of glory for their feature vocal or solo.
I also have a wing conventional console that I can do the same into sub-masters. Which is used for on-the-fly hot focuses, such as a festival, where all we get is a line check and go. By the third song I will have snuck in all the points I need as the show goes on. Unless the rhythm guitarist sees what I am trying to do and keeps stepping upstage an downstage as I chased him fruitlessly with the spot to pin him to a point to save it.
