midi control for programming

Hi Lightning Controller Team
...
- Does the scene programming editor also support hardware midi faders? For example, it is easier to position MovingsHeads by using hardware faders instead of the mouse and the digital fader.

Scene programming via midi faders is not done presently.
Please note that the space for channel programming (the black area) is 70 to 80% bigger than in V9. We hope that this will give you enough confort to program with the mouse.
That said, if we still get several complaints for that later, then we will think about it.

+1 for midi control on programming moving heads.

I would love to see a physical USB controller made by you guys as a hardware option.

One with a joystick would be amazing.

A board with 8 faders and 16 or more buttons. (Maybe layers to get even more)

+1 for midi control / usb on programming moving heads.

Even with bigger black area to setup moving head it’s still with the mouse …

Another question: almost all DMX fixtures have 16 bits mode for pan/tilt (65536 possible positions which requires two 256 positions faders), while a midi fader offers only 128 positions.
Could you please tell us how you proceed to program a 540° pan (or 270° tilt) with midi faders ?

FYI, with a standard 1080p monitor (1920*1080 pxl), the black area resolution in our new software is around 1500 * 1000 pixels. This means 1500 possible positions for pan and 1000 positions for tilt.

It's not perfect but that's almost 2:1 ratio. If I'm looking for precise location, I will turn to the software and key in an exact number or use the up/down error to move a step up or down. For quick positions, faders are so much more effective. Ideally a joystick dial. This can speed up programming dramatically.

I agree with muscanto. If an exact position is needed, this can happen via mouse and SW.
But very often a not so exact position is sufficient. A combination should be possible. To be able to change pan/tilt by fader and by mouse. This option is really helpfull.

Shall we conclude that you need midi control for programming only in the section "Step" of our software ?

We say that because:

1. in "Steps"
Although it looks weird for us to accept up to may be 1 meter (3 feet) for the light beam impact from one midi level to the next one (7 bits accuracy), we understand the procedure: you first adjust via the midi fader and, when necessary, you click on the up/down arrows of the software fader.

2. in "Generator"
There is no software faders to adjust the channels. Only the mouse in the black area.

Correct. Only needed in steps. Some sort of “listen to midi” toggle for faders in steps

Exactly. Only needed in Steps.
