Did you follow this ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPQlxYXAz4Q

PS : we have an "APC Mini" and it works well with it.
To control the LED of the buttons, we have to:
- in window "Preferences", check "Midi out" and select the midi device in the combo box
- in window "Button trigger", check "Midi out", press the buttons "Clone midi in", and select "0" (instead of "auto") in the combo "Data2 Off"

The APC40 will light up and stay lit when selected from computer screen but not when selected from the pad itself. I believe this only happens with the APC40, i have the 20 and it works fine with that. the pads are velocity sensitive.

I am having the same issue. I even tried the Data2off 0-9 and got a lot of different colors which was cool but they would never stay lit when the button on the APC40 was pressed. Only stays lit when you mouse click the LIVE button.

Yes, I'm having the same issue. APC40 lights only stay lit when the scene is triggered with the mouse. Is there a way around this?

Thanks!

We suspect that, when the midi button is released, the midi device sends an extra midi message which switches off the LED.

Could you please use a midi sniffer software to report us all midi messages ?
After a quick Google research, we found this one for MacOS: http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ (not tested)
And there is this one for Windows: http://www.midiox.com/

As stated previously... The APC 40 only transmits momentary triggers and not toggle...
Akai rectified the problem in their later products in the APC-40 Mk II, APC-20 and APC mini...

As a workaround, you can try to configure Live buttons as "Flash".
