If you actually got the MIDI out of V7 to light up the buttons on an APC, I'd say you're doing well. I have an APC 20 and could not get it to work, so I bought a Novation Launchpad S. Earl mentioned you can change the button color on those by changing the data value on the MIDI output. I never tried as a really don't care. I'm happy if the button just lights when active. Maybe he will chime in. I'd love to know your secret on how to remap an APC unit. I really like mine, but I kept making mistakes because I would lose track of which scenes were active during songs.

here's what I've found so far....
0=off, 1=green, 2=green blink, 3=red, 4=red
blink, 5=yellow, 6=yellow blink, 7-127=green

on the MIDI out for the button change the Data to the corresponding number...
keep me posted and I'll dig a lil deeper if ya need....
Here's Akai's Tech manual for the original APC... which may differ from the mark II

I'm still trying to figure out how he got the LED in the buttons on the Akai to respond to the MIDI out of the software. If I could get that to work, I'd return the Launchpad and convert that cash into another light fixture. I thought it was impossible, or is it just really difficult?

All's i did to get the buttons to light up when the scene is pressed it selected the box for midi out. Then hit the button clone Midi in. This is all in the button trigger page.

doesn't work on APC-20. Guess something has changed with new version. Good for you. The APC is a nice piece of kit.

I tried to change the MIDI data value to see if I could get the button to display a different color on the new Launchpad. It was a no go. Another button would light up. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. But what?? Appears to me (using Mac OS) that the MIDI out only assigns the button address. Honestly I'm fine if this is all it will do. I can now keep track of which scenes are active.

We just fixed a problem with Midi to special functions in Live (Master faders, ...) (only with special functions).
The fix is here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3266

Actually it is not possible to force the Data2 value of the Midi-Out messages (who is controlling the color of the led on some devices).
In fact, the Data2 value sent is 127 or the fader value when the Live button is in fader mode (because of motorized faders on some midi devices).

A solution could be to allow the selection of "Auto" or "Manual value" for the Data2 value of the Midi-Out message ...
