MIDI output support in V7

Postby Niffo » 23 April 2014, 16:38

Dear users,

We are now technically ready to add MIDI output support to the V7 software.
In order to implement it the right way, we need your answer to some questions :

1) What is you exact need in receiving MIDI output messages from the software to your MIDI controller ?
2) In the default configuration, when using your MIDI controller directly, does the buttons LED automatically turns on/off
3) In the default configuration, is the MIDI input address (ie : CC, data1) of a LED always the same than the MIDI output address of the corresponding button ?
4) Has the "data2" value always to be "127" to turn on a button LED ?
5) If you can not answer to 3) and 4), please post a link to your controller documentation

Regards.

Novation Launch pad
http://d19ulaff0trnck.cloudfront.net/si ... erence.pdf

1) A controller needs to recieve from software:
a, MIDI loop of input switchable thru/off
b,flash buttons should transmit as a momentary note on/ off'
c,Macros and scenes should transmit as toggle note on/off with a note off transmitted after end of loops and timelines
d,faders and presets should transmit as CC with a resolution of up to ? depending on the max number steps in a scene...
e,Tap BPM should transmit a flashing rate up to ??? And configurable time signatures
f, "Extra Credit" ... Strobe rate and type... :o just kidding...
g, MIDI time code, With the ability to sync software to incoming MIDI time code or internal clock ... Ahem...

2) Not without a looped midi signal from input of software

3) yes/no LEDs can change color if desired to indicate statuses, looping, and other nifty lil goodies!

4) no, depending on the amount of LEDs within each button and combinations of that can provide color mixing of button color

Thanks Niffo !

That was an awesome summary of what 2 way MIDI is all about. Especially when considering loop buttons, no loops, flashes etc. Great post.

To receive Midi from software, you have to :
- Enable "Midi Out" and choose a device in general Preferences and restart the Software
- Enable and configure "Midi Out" in "button trigger" of "Live" button
