Faders 21 and above do not work [done]

Post by jmic67 »

im using sweet light controller software and have 4 chauvet slimpar h6 fixtures. Each fixture has 12 dmx channels. fixture 1 is dmx 1 fixture 2 is dmx 13 fixture 3 is dmx 25 fixture 4 is dmx 37. i can only control fixture 1 and 2. if i set all fixtures to dmx 1 then they control together. help im really confused.

So to sum things up.

On each individual fixture you have:
  1. Fixture DMX address 001
  2. Fixture DMX address 013
  3. Fixture DMX address 025
  4. Fixture DMX address 037
In Sweetlight you've set:
  1. Chauvet H6 1-12
  2. Chauvet H6 13-24
  3. Chauvet H6 25-36
  4. Chauvet H6 37-48

And last, in Editor > Steps, you select all 4 fixtures while button DMX-send is Active in only this window, and not in Live > Buttons/TimeLine/Sequential list OR Editor > Generator
(This is for debugging though)

yes I have done precisely as you have stated. DMX 1 and DMX 13 work as they should, but DMX 25 and beyond nothing happens. I also have 3 Chauvet SlimPARProH on DMX 37, DMX 61,DMX 73. but like I said anything beyond DMX channel 24 nothing happens.

cabling arrangement doesn't matter. readdressing fixture 3 and 4 to dmx 1 and dmx 13 allows control of fixture 3 & 4 but any dmx address above 25 is non existent. has nobody ever had this problem?

Only when we make mistakes :D

1. What happens if you disconnect the cable going out to #2 to #3 and plugging it directly into the usb leaving #3 on dmx addr on 025, essentially bypassing #1 and #2 including their cables.
2. Do all the fixtures light up in 3Dveiw? or only #1 and #2?
3. Open
  • Top toolbar: Windows -> DMX Bargraph
  • Leaving things off, are any DMX bars red? If so, make changes so they don't.
  • Turning things on, do bars after dmx 024 change?
    • If they do, then the usb is sending data to the fixtures and you got a hardware issue somewhere
    • If NOT then you've made a booboo using the software

the bar graph shows red when the appropriate fader is used. in 3d view i see the appropriate fixtures highlighted. im thinking that i have a bad Xpress 1024 interface. when i switch the ouput of the Xpress 1024 to dmx out 2 and patch the same fixtures into universe 2 on the step screen then i control nothing. I spent several hours just trying to get this interface to communicate with the pc, found out that ShowExpress software is not compatible with my Xpress 1024, had to install SweetLight software to get it to work. I'm just glad that i haven't hung the fixtures yet, everything is sitting on my kitchen table testing before I install. I am a newbie but learning.

On further investigation I find that any DMX address above 19 does not work. I am pretty sure that the Xpress 1024 interface is the issue. If I address one12 ch fixture to DMX 17, faders 17,18,19, work but beyond 19 nadda. So being a newbie, has anyone had an issue with an interface like this.

Sounds like one of one of two things.
1. OS driver issue
2. USB dongle issue

Not easy to debug.

Support, you got any tips?

Some software parameters could interfere too :
- Check there is no DMX/MIDI patch in "File" => "Hard MIDI and DMX patch"
- Check the box "Change default DMX universes mapping" is not checked in "Preferences" => "DMX universes
- Check there is no DMX/MIDI inputs in "Editor" => "Fixture" => Toolbar Menu
- Check there is no Master Fader interfering in Live
