Live Buttons Screen Space

Post by Detour DJ »

This is a small issue, but maybe it's not. Many of us fill up our screens with lots of buttons to do lots of things in medium/large lighting rigs. Screen space is at a premium. I officially request that the designers find a way to eliminate the useless, empty space above all the live pages. Please. It takes up roughly 1/6 of the available screen space. We love ShowX, so please give us as much of it as our screens can take! And while you're at it, adjustable-size page windows would be nice too...even if they're only adjustable-width. Thanks!

We already tried to save some space on screen as you propose, but we finally could not do better, because MacOS forces this "too big" empty space between the gadgets.

I admit right away that I'm not a software developer, and I apologize if this seems argumentative, but surely something can be done about it. As I write this, I'm using a 15" MacBook Pro. The viewable height of the screen is about 8.125". Looking at ShowX maximized on this screen, there are several gray-colored areas stepping down to the usable Live buttons, which are surrounded by a fine black border. The height of that black border is 6.5", which means 20% of the available screen height is dedicated to useless gray areas. Granted, there are tabs at the top for the Editor/Pixels/Live/Standalone screens, then the Menu/Save/Hold --- Freeze/DMX/3D functions, and finally Buttons #1/Buttons #2/Timeline screens. Surely, there's a better way to set these control tabs and gray borders so that they don't take up 20% of the screen height?

I am getting tired of the restrictions of the software because of Apple computers.
Surely we should now have 2 different versions.

Multiple child windows would be nice

Totally agree on child windows instead of tabs. We can then have different size live pages where with tabs they all have to be the same.

why not just add more tabs like I have said here viewtopic.php?f=72&t=3986

That's an easy way to have more space, more tabs, more pages and way more buttons.
Plus the chance to have everything set out just the way you like it for each set of lights.

My personal opinion is that in using "windows" rather than "tabs" is that I can have a page with 2 buttons and scale it to the size I need, and a 20 button page could be larger or smaller depending on the function.

Yea that sounds good to John. But...
That would be ok for people using more than 1 screen and can have child windows on a different screen from the main Live board.
For people using the 1 screen or laptop I think not has good, as, how many child windows are you going to have all over the screen on top of each other as well as the main Live board.
