[Feature Request] Manual patch conf file

Postby Magneson » 07 January 2013, 13:47

Hi

I was wondering how "Patch for DMX and MIDI" stores its patching, and if it is possible to separate this into a text file or spreadsheet (as I can't see any obvious method of saving/importing patches).

After poking a bit around in the program folders, I can't find any file which contains the patches. Does it exist? Or is it coded into the program file itself?

If it could be saved to a fairly standard, comma separated, CSV or TXT file it would make patching a ton easier as you could create the patch files in Excel or similar and just import them to the patchbay.

Best regards

In your Lighshows folder, you should find a file "dmx_outputs_patch.ini". This is a text file which is editable to any format.
This should help you in how to create the file in any format you require, and what the final export should look like.

Hi John, thanks for the reply.

I've looked through the lightshow folder, but can't seem to find the .ini file. There are a lot of others though, but no one for dmx/midi as far as I can tell. I'm using OSX by the way, but as far as I've understood, that shouldn't be any different from the windows version. It strikes me as a bit weird, as there are a few patches defined in the dmx/midi patch, which should be stored somewhere.

Best regards

You can also go into Fixture Setup, Dmx Addressing, Tools, Export Dmx Address
This will create a .txt file for you.

Thanks

That one worked, but is there a way to append midi patching in that file?

The same file is stored for MacOS & Windows.
Just note that this file does not exist until you define a first patch in the "Patch for DMX and MIDI" window.

@Magneson
Do not do any midi patching, so can not help on this.
Maybe support can answer you on this.

Thanks John, and thanks support.

I have specified four arbitrary addresses in the patch editor as a test, but there still seems to be no "dmx_outputs_patch.ini" file in the lightshows folder - or any other folder for that matter. This seems quite weird, as the patches I've specified reloads when I start the program, even after a restart which should clear the memory in case it only was temporary.

Just tried to specify DMX inputs and outputs as well, but it crashed when I added the DMX output. Do you get the crash reports, or should I send it to you somehow?

Best regards

Crash report is not useful for us.
Please send us your lightshow, and tell us the exact actions to do in order to reproduce this problem.
