Midi Foot Controller

I purchased a Behringer Foot Controller FCB1010 to try and controll
the software VIA foot controller. Got the MIDI to USB Cable.
So I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out.
Honestly I am MIDI and DMX stupid. Pretty Good about figuring things out but on
this I am lost. I can not find anything of how to get the FCB 1010 to control
the software.
So what am I missing or where do I need to look to get help on getting this to work with my software?
Any help would be great.
Honestly If I cant figure this out the whole purpose of buying software and foot controller was a waste of my time and money.
