Live on Iphone with Mac

I have not been able to get my Iphone to attach to the software on my Mac, One thing that I may be missing is how to set the password on the Mac's software. I have not been able to determine where to set it. Has anyone been able to get this to work? Thanks for any info you can give me. I have gone in to the phone and set the address so that is not the problem. Thanks for any info you can give.
