Error message "unable to connect to live"

If all above is done and the connection still fails, the usual reason is it is blocked by the OS firewall or an antivirus.
All "unusual" (other than internet browser) Ethernet access are oftenly seen by the firewall/antivirus as an attack attempt. So you have to inform the firewall/antivirus that it is a safe connection.
