Can't get first light working [fixed]

Postby chauchau » 05 July 2014, 04:41

Hi, I have a no-name par can that works fine in manual (non-DMX) mode. I defined the fixture in ShowExpress and its 6 channels. I defined the starting DMX address in ShowExpress and on the par can's DIP switches. In Editor I defined the levels for each channel, saved a scene, and added the scene to the timeline. Nothing lights up. Device driver installed okay. Any ideas?

Here´s a little check list:

At the fixture:
- Be sure DMX Mode is activated and DIP switches are setted up correctly (Starting adress1 is okay for testing).
- Take a look in the manual (if there´s one ;) )
- At the most fixtures there´s an LED which blinks when it receives DMX signal

At the Soft-/Hardware:
- Which Interface do you have?
- Look if the "PC-LINK" Led is on.
and now:
Go directly into editor ->steps and turn on the DMX (little symbol, top right corner)
Play a little bit with the first six channels. As far as I know there should still be a DMX output although no fixture is setted up.
If there´s a dimmer channels also turn it up.
Don´t make it too complicated with Timeline etc :D

What happens now?

Hi Lighter007,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm using the Xpress 512 that has 1 universe. The PC-Link light never goes on even though the USB light comes on as soon as I plug in the USB cable. I believe that indicates where the problem is but doesn't tell me how to fix it. In Windows 7 Device Manager, under the USB controllers "D512 interface 64 bits (version 1.04)" appears to be functioning correctly and its "Device Status" says "This device is working properly".

I re-installed the device driver and then I was able to get it working. :D Around the same time I was learning more about how the fixture responds to values on each of its 8 channels. Thanks again.
