Chauvet Geyser P7 issue and fix

Postby maestro710 » 24 October 2019, 01:48

I recently purchased two Chauvet Geyser P7 foggers. When connected to DMX, the fogger would alternate between a second or two of working and a second or two of NOT working. This seemed to coincide with the fogger's LED display alternating between "Addr" and the selected DMX channel (80 in this case).

Upgraded from ShowXpress 8.x (32-bit) to 9.2.3 (64-bit) but the problem persisted.

The fix in this case was to change the "USB nap speed" setting to "high" in preferences. I haven't yet tested the fix in version 8.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit v1809.
Interface: Chauvet Xpress 100
Did not upgrade driver.

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I was unable to find anything relevant in a search of "geyser" or "usb nap settings." I'm still not sure what the USB nap setting actually does, but I can't argue with the result.

I hope someone finds this useful.

Thanks.

Sorry. I'll try to be more clear.

The short version:

If "USB nap speed" is set to Medium (default), P7 fog and light output is intermittent.

Changing the setting to "High" resolves the problem.

Thank you.

The message is clear now.
This parameter concerns the frequency of the usb frames, when there is no channels change.
Some dmx fixtures go to a standalone mode when the delay between two dmx frames is too long.
When this happen, you have to set this parameter to "high".
This concerns only the dmx interface "Cable".
