external monitor makes lights crazy [fixed]

Postby yogaf » 21 August 2010, 23:42

Hi All,
I need help. I am using a new laptop (Core 2 Duo w/ 512MB Ram and WINXP pro) replacing my old desktop. I got problems that maybe anyone also encounter this. Here is it

1. My first problem is when I connect an external monitor to my laptop and the X-Factor then light going crazy (DMX signal is gone) and light blink by itself uncontrolable. Right after I unplug the external monitor everything just work find.
2. This also happen when I plug an audio cable to my laptop headphone jack to audio mixer to play my timeline, is also going crazy (with same symptoms). First I though is my phone jack so I unplug my the audio cable and use an earphone - and it works just fine. So I though is my mixer so I use the audio cable directly to a speaker (powered) is also GOING CRAZY.

Please let me know, if you know any fix or any input.

Thanks

Had something similar,

3 things you can try:

If you have a terminator, then remove it

If you dont have a trerminator, then try one in

lastly, run a dmx cable into the showxpress unit from your last fixture.

Onoe of them should settle your problem hopefully, It did for me.

Also try taking the power lead out of your laptop, and run on battery. I have had problems with my audio before that has been related to the laptop power supply.

Thanks for all the response
@tomrbland
I tried run the laptop on both with power adapter and battery, both doesn't help

@jaxx00974
can you explain what do you mean by "lastly, run a dmx cable into the showxpress unit from your last fixture." Do you mean run cable from the last fixtures to DMX in?

Correct, this closes the loop and sometimes does help.

Good luck,

And mind check for a faulty cable.

I tried the loop (from the last fixtures to DMX in on x-Factor) - It doesn't fix my problem... I will try the terminator in the next view days (wait till it arrive). I just rewire all my cable - but I will recheck when the terminator doesn't give any result.

Will keep updating... Thanks

dear all, Thanks for all the input and answer...

I tried all... use terminator and not... loop the cable... NOTHING works... But I figure that the problem is coming out from 1 of my light (1 of my Yokes - CHAUVET MIN Spot LED - I got 2 of them). If I don;t use external monitor is all find.. but when I plug external monitor (laptop) OR plug my audio to audio mixer the ALL the light (PAR included) is going crazy. But when I unplug this MIN SPOT - everything just fine... I don't know what happen? I think I need to call CHAUVET for that.

Again thanks all for the help
