New to DMX - basic question - Express512 ok?

Postby Patrick Randall » 24 April 2015, 12:43

Hi,
I'm trying to setup a church lighting setup and would like to use a computer rather than hardware.
I have stumbled across this forum and have downloaded the s/w and am very impressed.
I've just ordered the Chauvet Express 512 but don't see it listed in the supported hardware.
Is it?
If so, is it a device for a single universe? I want to trigger scenes from MIDI as well.

I got a rather good looking show with a few fixtures and 3D view - went to save it and there was no usual "Save As" - I tried New Show but of course lost it all.
Can I get a pointer to basic file management? Couldn't see it in a quick scan of the manual - seems like there are folders for each separate show?
Thanks/Merci much in anticipation,
Patrick

Your interface is this one: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=31 .
Yes it is supported (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5).
It can control up to 512 dmx channels (one universe).
You can trigger via midi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPQlxYXAz4Q) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaU0zjF8PCY).
The fixtures are imported in tab "Fixtures" ; they are automatically displayed in 3DView (when possible).
The software asks to for saving the tab "Fixtures", before you exit from it.
They is effectively one folder per lightshow ; you can use the main menu "File" > "Open lightshow folder" to see them.
To start with our software: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1553 .

Wow - outstanding response - thank you!
Exciting stuff - I was steeling myself for wobbly faders and buttons! Onwards!
Thanks again.

I'm sorry but I'm getting a bit mixed up here and consequently losing Steps and 3D setups.
Can you tell me what I need to do to save and reload Fixtures, Steps and the 3D objects?
