DMX Issue -- OmniSistem LED Curtain

Postby APHetch » 09 May 2012, 18:01

Hello:
I am using ShowXpress with an Xpress 512 Controller.
I am running OSX (Lion) on a new generation Macbook Pro (Intel Based).
I have created a new profile for the OmniSistem LED Curtain (OmniNite OS-9032).

I can access each of the channels for the device and it works as designed (as per the device profile).
However, about every 7 or 8 seconds, the device "flashes" as if it is resetting.
When set for "all on", the lights should remain lit. However, the curtain appears to "flash".
I have read the other notes and am concerned that this has something to do with the DMX refresh rate?

Note: The curtain operates correctly when connected to a Chauvet Obey 40 DMX Controller.
I loaded ShowExpress on a windows PC and experienced the same problem. I checked the firmware version. It is currently 106.

This leads me to believe that the problem is with the software or the controller itself.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you,
Tony

DMX refresh rate problem was with old interfaces driving some more recent "non 100% dmx compliant" Chinese lights.
Interface D512 firmware includes modified dmx signal, in order to drive correctly these lights.

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions for a fix? This is clearly an issue with the controller or the software.
Thanks.

15 months ago, firmware version 106 has been especially made for the Chinese lights who are compatible with fast dmx signal. Since that time, we have not heard any problem.
So we are not convinced this is a dmx refresh problem (except if China just put on market a new kind of "non 100 dmx compliant" fixture).

In order to know if software/interface has a problem, we suggest you to check with another dmx fixture.

Thank you for your suggestion to try another light. Please understand that I am running a full light show with these devices
3 lasers
8 Blizzard Puck 3 lights
1 Chauvet Vue
1 American DJ Revo 4
2 Chauvet Intimidator 300 Barrel Scanners
2 Chauvet QSpot 260's
1 Chauvet Hurricane Flex Fog 1800
2 Chauvet 4 Bar Tri
4 Chauvet Color Strips
4 Chauvet Accuspot 360's
4 LED panels
I am using an American DJ Optical Splitter to manage 4 separate DMX cable runs.

All of the other lights work perfectly fine.

The curtain does not work properly with the DMX control. It works fine with a Chauvet Obey 40 DMX controller
It works fine in stand-alone mode.

In short, the controller and software work fine with my other lights. The curtain works fine when controlled outside of ShowExpress.

I believe the problem is with the software or firmware for the controller.

What additional information can I provide to assist in the resolution of this matter?

Thanks.

Does the curtain work properly, when plugged alone to our interface ?
Alone = only one dmx line from our interface to the curtain, and no other dmx line, and all other dmx fixtures off.

No. The curtain does not function properly at all with the software and controller regardless of whether it is by itself or with other fixtures.

We do not have this fixture, so we can not make any test with it.
We suggest you to ask the manufacturer what dmx restrictions this fixture needs, in order to work well.
