Jerky pan/tilt movement

Postby jaxx00974 » 02 September 2010, 21:58

Is it possible to have the Editor do 00.01s rather than the current 00.05 minimum in the steps ? the 00.05 does make my scanners jerky when moving them when they are infact smooth in stand alone mode. I know the 00.05 gaps increments is what makes them jerk. This would make all my movement on stage smooth if 00.01 could be acheived, or as close to 00.01 as poss ?

I understand that V5 was minimum 00.10 and V6 now does 00.05 which is an improvment but 00.01 would be fantastic ?

Thanks guys.

Lee.

0,01 second steps mean refresh everything (data streaming, faders on screen, ...) at 100 Hz !
This is not possible with our current development tools.
We think this is not possible under a basic operating system like Windows or MacOS.

We already saw some lights which have jerky movement, when data refresh is below 100Hz.
We are sorry to tell you that the DMX electronic part of these kind of lights is low quality.
In theory, 20Hz is more than enough for pan/tilt.

The response time of such light is too fast, which is not necessary.

Regarding this problem, they are 3 kinds of lights:
- hight quality lights analyse the target position, and they adapt the speed in order to make a smooth movement
- normal quality lights have a dmx channel reserved to adjust the speed (so we have to ajust this fader for each different movement)
- low quality lights do not analyse anything, and they have no "speed" dmx channel (so dmx data must be very high speed to mask this problem)

Thanks,

The same happened to me and i could not figure out what was going on. I got this porblem while using the generator slowing down the pattern for a slow move, so i guess it won't work that way. So if I want avoid this problem in the future I should speed up the pattern time? I am using Martin Mac350 Entour's, what will they qualify as? How do thier analysing work?

Generator is supposed to be able to make slow movements.
This fixture has a "pan&tilt speed" channel ; may be it needs to be precisely adjusted (?)
