function fan

Post by Focu »

hi. why not make a button in the Steps tab to expand on x or at the position of the devices. Such functions also exist in all top management systems (Chamsys, GrandMA, Hog, Avolites, DasLight ...).
And it would be cool to have in our program a function that would give the opportunity to bring all the devices to one point and move one point and not 10 devices.

"Expand" is available in Generator V9.

Could we have it for Steps as well? It would be useful for creating fanned static positions for moving heads

We never found a solution in harmony with the existing GUI.

We proceed as follow:
1. we write a small manual for the user to use the function
2. we imagine the tutorial in our mind
3. we check this will be easy for all users
4. if this is possible, then we could think about coding it.

But we are not able to define points 1, 2 and 3.

A complete (points 1,2 and 3) proposition would be welcome.

Excuse my quick mockup but this would be amazing for steps when creating static positions, very quickly. Static positions use a lot of fanning but we have to eyeball it/take more time to set the pan/tilt values by hand. Some cool, quick positions could be made if this was somehow implemented.

+1 for this function

It would be nice to:
- select as usual some fixtures
- have the ability to modify Fan options in a popup window similar to those already available in Generator (in order to avoid modifying the current GUI of the Editor)
- set the desired fan in the window
When the window is closed, the sliders in the normal editor will be moved to "fanned" values calculated.

Hope this helps :)

Doing a fan from first to last fixture should be quite easy.
BUT, we guess you would like to ability to change the order of the fixtures (?)
If yes, we guess you would like to not have to re-enter the order at each re-selection of the fixtures (?)
If yes, this order must be saved.
And because there is an infinite number of possible selections with the lasso in 2DView, this is not possible.

The first 10% is done.
We are now in the next 30% of the job.

That sounds good :)
Regarding the ability to change the order of the fixtures, I was thinking of something like this:

If working with a relatively small number of fixtures, manually changing the order of the heads (exactly as it is presently possible in the Generator) won't be an extensive problem on the user experience side (in my opinion).

Sorry but our conclusion was: "this is not possible".
Which means we are blocked in the 30% of the second step.
