Using other USB DMX Cable (?)

Can you only use the Sweetlight USB cable with the Sweetlight software?

I am new to the DMX scene and am trying to set up some lights for a friend for his bands stage show. I have the LIXADA usb but cant seem to get it working with the sweetlight software.
